CGS aim is to
encourage excellence in glass as a creative medium and to develop a greater awareness of contemporary glass worldwide. CGS is the UK’s foremost organisation for supporting established artists, for supporting up-and-coming makers and for promoting contemporary glass in the wider art world. We’re a not-for-profit limited company by guarantee, open to anyone working with, or interested in, contemporary glass.
Northlands Creative Glass
Scotland’s centre of excellence in glass making.
Located in the wild and dramatic landscape of Caithness on the North East Coast of Scotland, North Lands Creative Glass is one of the world’s most prestigious centres for the study and development of glass as an artform, providing excellent facilities, opportunities and inspiration to artists working with glass from all over the world. We run an annual programme of activities including master classes with renowned artists, glass skills classes, artist residencies, beginner workshops and community programmes. Our ethos is to encourage and support collaboration and experimentation between artists working across different media to extend the possibilities in the creative use of glass.
Amanda Simmons
Amanda creates beautiful kiln form glass using gravity and engraving and is brilliant at sharing and enthusing others about what she is learning – as I found out at a master course at Northlands Creative Glass . Amanda makes kiln formed and cameo engraved glass vessels from her studio in Corsock. A brief extract from her website … I’m fascinated by structures created using gravity whilst the glass heats in the kiln, the vessels becoming more complex as I experiment using hand-built suspension moulds. I’ve worked with glass for the past 10 years, studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Glass & Architecture at Central St Martin’s School of Art & Design in London, before re-locating to Dumfries & Galloway in 2005.
